SERIES TEACHING SYNOPSIS

The Bible has a lot to say about being wise. Being wise comes from learning from life experiences, so can kids really make wise choices? Yes! Luke tells us that Jesus was growing in wisdom even as a boy. Kids may not make wise choices every time—most adult don’t either—but they can grow in wisdom when they learn some simple truths about where wisdom comes from. Instead of heaping pressure on kids to carefully make wise choices or get it right every time, we need to explore how wisdom is a journey we can take with God cheering us on as we walk in His way. This series encourages kids with truths about growing in wisdom like Jesus: He offers us sources to get it through His Word, the parents and leaders He has placed in our lives, and just asking Him. Most importantly, He offers us grace as we learn from our mistakes.

LEADER NOTES

This series is not at all scary. The promo presents it as mysterious just to build excitement, not to warn of something frightening coming. So, don’t do anything to give the impression to kids that something scary is going to happen through this story. On the contrary, you could calm any fears by pointing out that the whole thing is actually taking place in the imaginations of three screenwriters so it’s not even real.

Take time to really relate to kids in your Talk It Over time. For some kids, this may be the only spiritual conversation they are a part of all week. Draw in those who only come occasionally and help fill them in on what’s going on in the story if they are confused. Make your group a key part in what makes those kids want to come back. Help them feel missed when they aren’t there and accepted and loved when they are.
